INSERTS AND ORTHOTICS
“Custom inserts are like prescription glasses. When someone has myopia or an astigmatism, the shape of the eye is the problem. When we wear prescription glasses it helps correct the shape so we can see better, for the times we are wearing the glasses, we are no longer straining. Shoe inserts I dispense in the office are like cheater reading glasses you can buy over the counter. Custom Orthotics are like prescription glasses because they effectively put your foot in the right position, so you can walk, run, and move more efficiently–which decreases strain on the foot. Decreased strain to the foot directly impacts the shock on the ankles, knees and hips.” – Dr. Shylaja Arya
IN OFFICE DISPENSING OF INSERTS
After a thorough gait analysis, foot exam, and limb length measurement, if appropriate given the patients’ pathology, Dr. Shylaja Arya will recommend a medical grade over-the-counter insert that is exclusively dispensed to physician offices only. The devices were designed by an experienced Doctor of Physical Therapy. Depending on your foot pathology, she will fit and size you for an athletic or dress insert that is unique to you given your physical exam attributes–but not actually custom, as it is not hand molded and casted to your foot.
CUSTOM ORTHOTICS
Custom Orthotics are generally a hand molded or foam impression medical grade, high quality device that is unique to each patient’s foot structure. Dr. Shylaja Arya has many year of experience hand crafting these devices with appropriate add ons and prescriptions to make them perfectly unique to her patients. In many cases, a custom orthotic can keep a patient from having to go on to surgery for many pathologies.
The caveat to consider with custom orthotics is that they help the pathology while you wear them and they can prevent the aforementioned pathology from worsening–but you have to wear them in order for them to work. From conditions of arthritis, bunion, hammertoes, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, midfoot instability, low arches, high arches, and so much more–custom orthotics can be incredibly helpful to keep people on their feet, doing all the things they love to do. Since the product is custom, Dr. Shylaja Arya uses high grade materials that are long lasting, and custom to the person’s activity. For example, for a woman that wants to wear heels versus a construction worker on concrete all day–the prescriptions are very different in their materials and accommodations alike. Custom orthotics just might be the right fix for your foot and ankle issues, stop by to see if they are right for you.
